Well, it's been a long, long time between drinks! Life has certainly been very busy since my last blog entry. Since then I have run a successful campaign and been elected as a Councillor for Ward C in Ballina Shire Council. It's very challenging and exciting ... and I'm loving it! (I'll write more on this at a later time!)
For this blog post, however, I've just popped in to bring you then news that Shirley's and my original song - I've Got Legs - has been short-listed in the final 30 entries for the Australian Songwriters Association - Songwriting Competition, 2022 - Children's Music category.

This is very exciting and Shirley and I are crossing our fingers that we might go to the next stage - the top 10.
I'd like to clearly state that the entry should read "I've Got Legs" by Simon Chate and Shirley Robertson."
When I submitted the song, I'd forgotten what a pivotal role my wife, Shirley played in its creation (almost 20 years ago!) and I submitted it under my own name. Since then, I've remembered its inception ... Shirley and I were singing in the car and we came up with a very catchy tune and some good lyrics! I then took the idea, wrote a bunch more lyrics, arranged and recorded some music and developed it into a great little song. While I definitely did the lions share of its creation, Shirley's role is definitely worthy of a songwriting credit!
